Certificates

Certificate data for England & Wales comes from the Energy Performance of Buildings register, through the Energy Certificate Data API run by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). Lookups query it live; nothing is copied into a database of our own.

Licensing

All certificate data other than addresses and postcodes is licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.

Addresses and postcodes are Royal Mail PAF® data processed against Ordnance Survey AddressBase Premium. Ordnance Survey and Royal Mail permit their use only for specific purposes related to the energy performance of buildings, and the full copyright and database right notice is shown with every lookup result, as the licence requires. See the licensing restrictions published with the data.

Coverage

England & Wales only. Scotland publishes through the Scottish EPC Register and Northern Ireland through its own register; neither is included here, and postcodes in those areas are pointed at the correct register rather than looked up.

Cost figures

Indicative measure costs come from the recommendation reports attached to EPCs in England & Wales. They are national ranges, not quotations.

Rules and deadlines

The minimum energy efficiency standard for the private rented sector, the 1 October 2030 band C deadline and the £10,000 cost cap come from the government announcement of January 2026 for England & Wales.

Accuracy

A certificate records what an assessor could see on the day it was produced. It may be up to ten years old, and it may not reflect work carried out since. Treat it as a record, not a survey.
